Echandia appoints Hellström as new CEO

Maritime battery and fuel cell systems company Echandia has announced that it has appointed Fredrik Hellström as CEO.

Hellström joined Echandia as Deputy Managing Director in 2021. He has over 10 years of leadership experience in ship design and large-scale project management, and he holds a PhD in fluid mechanics and a master’s degree in naval architecture.

“I am honored to be named CEO of the company that Magnus Eriksson founded and successfully led for many years. Echandia is today a world leader in the development of advanced battery and fuel cell systems for marine and industrial applications. My focus will be on building a strong growing business and expanding our product portfolio with our world-class team,” said Hellström.

Current CEO and Founder, Magnus Eriksson, will serve as Chief Strategy Officer and focus on developing Echandia’s IP technology and product portfolio, strengthening the company’s long-term competitiveness. The change takes place with immediate effect.

“The world’s largest electric ferry fleet in Kochi, India is equipped with our energy solutions, as are the award-winning ferries in Copenhagen. The world’s leading shipyard Damen Shipyard in the Netherlands is a big customer. The CEO change will increase our ability – and therefore, the ability to take Echandia to the next level,” Eriksson said.
