Notre Dame football is knocking on the door of a record goalscoring program

The Notre Dame attack has been a test of patience for most Fighting Irish fans this fall. A slow start that featured losses to Ohio State and Marshall saw very little sign of life from the offense while even in wins along the way there were headaches and problems.

Still, it’s mid-November and the Notre Dame offense is about to do something that’s only been done once in program history.

It hasn’t always gone well, but without looking, do you realize that Notre Dame has scored 35 or more points in each of the past four games? Now, let’s face it, special teams and defense both played big roles in these.

However, if Notre Dame scores 35 or more points against Boston College, they will do so for the fifth straight game, which has only been accomplished once in Notre Dame’s 134 football seasons.

And if they can possibly do it twice to close the year, it will be a first in the history of the program. Just reading this tweet this morning and thinking about it for a bit, it seems perfectly symbolic of Notre Dame football in 2022: you can try to explain it, but it’s probably much better for your sanity if you don’t. not.

Here’s a brief summary of every time Notre Dame has scored 35 or more points in four straight games in a single season. You’re going to want to see opponent names and scores from some of the 1912 and 1900 seasons. Oh, how times have changed.
