O’Leary’s Modified 1720 Remains Leading Calf Week Regatta After Fastnet Rock Race

The modified 1720 Antix Beag sports boat skippered by Anthony O’Leary of the Royal Cork Yacht Club continues to lead the larger class of the 2021 Schull Harbor Sailing Club Calf Week Regatta.

After In Wednesday’s race around Fastnet Rock, O’Leary managed to stay ahead of strong visiting boats to West Cork (including reigning ISORA champion Rockabill VI), but points are tight atop Class 1 with one point separating the top, there are three remaining in the general classification and two races to go.

O’Leary is on four points, but Frank Whelan’s new J / 122 Kaya of Greystones Sailing Club now sits second but with the same five points as Brian Jones J / 109 Jelly Baby of Royal Cork Yacht Club, who remains third in the fleet of 12 class one boats.

Cortegada continues to lead class two

RCYC Half Tonner Cortegada, owned by George Radley, continues to lead Flor Riordan’s Elan 31 Three Cheers in nine class two boats and now has a two-point cushion. Norbert Reilly’s J / 80 Red Cloud of the Howth Yacht Club edged Sunfast 32 Bad Company skippered by Frank Desmond for third place.

Quarter Tonner Snoopy in charge of class three

Courtown Sailing Club Quarter Tonner Snoopy (Martin Mahon) continues to lead IRC Class Three. Patrick Collins Dehler 34 Ealu of Baltimore Sailing Club is now second and ahead of First Class 8 of Peter O’Leary, Repo8 of Crookhaven Sailing Club.

BonJourno leads class four

Rob O’Reilly BonJourNo’s Quarterfinal! Part Two of the Monkstown Bay Sailing Club in Cork Harbor took the lead of five class four boats, knocking down first leader Richard Hanley of Kinsale Yacht Club in GK 24 Saoirse, now second. Albin Ballad Seven Whistler of Rene Wubben of the Waterford Harbor Sailing Club remains third.

White Sails IRC is run by the Grand Soleil 37 Prince of Tides of Frank Caul of the Royal Cork Yacht Club of the Indulgence of the Schull Harbor Sailing Club, a Dehler 36 skippered by Aidan Heffernan. The Sovereign 400 VSOP skippered by Don McCarthy of the host club is third.
