Viking brands float on the newest ocean-going vessel

“The day when a new ship meets the water for the first time is always a special moment in time, and today is particularly significant because for the second time, my dear friend Lady Carnarvon will honor us by serving as godmother to a new Viking ship, ”said Karine Hagen, executive vice president of Viking. “The past year and a half has been a time of uncertainty for all of us, and that’s when you know your true friends. Lady Carnarvon has done so much to help Viking including opening his home almost every week for our guests to experience ‘At Home at Highclere’ life on Viking.TV. She really is like the sister I never had. We are delighted to celebrate this milestone and look forward to welcoming Viking mars to our award-winning ocean fleet next year. ”

“I am both honored and privileged to be chosen as godmother of the Viking mars, the latest addition to Viking’s magnificent cruise ships. I have no doubts that she will delight the many guests who travel with her across seas and oceans, “said Lady Carnarvon.

The traditional ceremony of leaving the waterline took place at the Fincantieri shipyard in Ancona and is important because it denotes a ship entering its final stage of construction. The float out of Viking mars started around 11:00 local time when a member of the Viking team cut a rope signaling that water was beginning to flow into the ship’s construction dock. After a two-day process that will define Viking mars afloat, it will then be moved to a nearby outfitting dock for final construction and interior design.

Viking and Highclere Castle

Today’s announcement that Lady Carnarvon will serve as godmother to Viking mars builds on the long-standing relationship between Viking and the Carnarvon family. Since 2013, Viking has been offering customers a variety of ways to experience life at Highclere Castle, the home of the Earl and Countess of Carnarvon, and known as the filming location of Downton abbey. Privileged Access® Pre / Post Cruise Extensions co-created by Karine Hagen and the Carnarvon family include Oxford and Highclere Castle—Viking’s top rated pre / post cruise expansion — and Big houses, gardens and gin, both of which are available to customers on certain river and ocean routes. Also, for guests on the popular Pharaohs & Pyramids Nile cruise itinerary, Viking offers the five days British collections of ancient Egypt Pre-Cruise Extension, which gives guests an introduction to Egyptian antiquities for their Nile experience, and includes retracing the footsteps of the world’s most famous Egyptologist, Howard carter, and his benefactor, the 5e Earl of Carnarvon. Guests have privileged access to the museum’s archives and exhibits which are not normally accessible to the public, and at Highclere Castle, have the opportunity to view the Earl’s magnificent private collection of Egyptian artifacts.

For more than a year, Lady Carnarvon greeted viewers at Highclere Castle on the award-winning Viking Enrichment Channel, Viking.TV (www.viking.tv). In his current series, At home in Highclere, a segment broadcast on certain Fridays, Lady Carnarvon offers virtual privileged access to the historic house and its grounds. She also made other appearances on Viking.TV, including an interview with an iconic British journalist and godmother for Viking Venus® Anne Diamant. Besides, Lady Carnarvon served as godmother to a Viking longship, Viking skadi, and his best-selling books are sold aboard Viking’s fleet of river and ocean vessels. Later this month, during the week of July 26, Viking will celebrate its partnership with the Carnarvon family with a week of content on Viking.TV, dedicated to Highclere Castle and the stories of the great estate.
